Dr. Harris Stratyner

Dr. Harris B. Stratyner is the Clinical Division Director of Addiction/Recovery Services for the Mount Sinai Medical Center and  Associate Professor of Psychiatry. He is also the Chairperson of the Sub-committee on Substance Abuse of the Westchester Community Services Board, which advises the Commissioner of Mental Health in Westchester County. Dr. Stratyner is a member of the United Nation’s Non-Governmental Organization’s Committee on Narcotics, the Westchester Council On Alcoholism and Other Drug Addictions, the National Council on Alcoholism and Other Drug Addictions, the Westchester County Psychological Association, the American Psychological Association,  a member of the Board of Trustees of Mercy College, a member of The National Association of Drug and Alcohol Professionals, a Board Member of Human Development Services of Westchester, and a Trustee of Mercy College. Dr. Stratyner has been a featured speaker, through the Bill Moyers’ Series on Addiction at the United Nations. A nationally recognized expert on co-occurring disorders, Dr. Stratyner has written extensively on his model of “Carefrontation” with addicted individuals.

Dr. Stratyner has appeared on local and national television on numerous occasions including NBC’s “A Closer Look.” Also a musician, Dr. Stratyner wrote notes for the Stan Getz/Chet Baker CD “Quintessence, Vol. I.,” where he discussed the psychology of the creative process. Dr. Stratyner has hosted “Here’s to Your Good Health,” for almost 20 years, and received a Proclamation from the Westchester County Executive in 1999 for 10 years of broadcasting.

His unique interest in psychology, health, literature, and music, make his shows quite fascinating. He is currently writing a book entitled “Conversations With Dizzy,” about his lifelong relationship with the great jazz legend and composer, which examines the lessons we learn in life as we age.
Dr. Stratyner has delivered Grand Rounds at many Psychiatric Hospitals and Rehabilitation Facilities, including New York Presbyterian Hospital, Four Winds Hospital, Rockland Psychiatric Center, St. Josephs Rehabilitation Center, Arms Acres Hospital, and The Nathan Kline Research Institute. Dr. Stratyner has also presented at the Betty Ford Center at Eisenhower Hospital. He approaches every individual as unique and stresses the importance of spiritual sobriety.
